Art and Lynda Brender, both University of Texas at Austin graduates, moved to Fort Worth, Texas in 1973. Art had completed service in the U.S. Navy and having finished law school, was hired by renowned Fort Worth civil rights lawyer Don Gladden. Lynda, a microbiologist, soon went to work at Doctors Community Hospital in Hurst. In 1977, Art formed his own law firm, now The Brender Law Firm. The firm is located at 600 Eighth Ave. where Art and Lynda restored a 1907 residence and two other homes in the same, all three having been constructed by renowned architects, Sanguinet and Staats. Winfield Scott, rancher and developer, lived at one of the homes before purchasing Thistle Hill. In 2014, Art was joined by his son, John Brender, a University of Texas at Austin undergraduate and Baylor Law School graduate, who served six years as an Assistant District Attorney/Felony Prosecutor in Dallas. The Brender Law Firm handles personal injury and product liability cases, criminal defense, and complex litigation, including class actions and civil rights cases. Art and Lynda’s family consists of Sarah Blankenship, Project Manager for Advanced Micro Devices; her husband, Patrick, Austin Community College (both University of Texas at Austin graduates); and their three daughters, Molly (18), Ellie (17), and Grace (12); Dr. Erin Brender, an internal medicine doctor at Rogue Valley Medical Center, Medford, Oregon; her husband, Dr. Mujahid Rivzi, an oncologist; and their sons, Sullay (12) and Rayan (9); and John and his wife, Brittyn, also an attorney; and their children, Bobby (4) and Bailey (2). The Brenders are active in their community, including the Democratic Party where Art was a former County Chairman and Lynda a precinct chair for 30 years. The Beto O’Rourke campaign is currently headquartered in their restored home on the 600 block of Eighth Ave.
